Starting the journey
Welcome everyone!
My name is Nicola Irvine, owner of my newly founded production company Landlady Films and I am starting this blog whilst I do the craziest thing I've ever done in my life; Quit my stable job in Engineering to become a full-time filmmaker.
For some background, I have been a filmmaker since the age of 12, creating films to scare my family members, back then purely with the intentions of making them cry. Film has become much more to me now (though I still hold those intentions occasionally).
I left school after my GCSE's, with wants to study film but a 'sensible' voice in my head told me to get an apprenticeship in a prospering industry, that way I can get a stable job whilst earning money and qualifications, I'd be very employable and film would remain a hobby. And that is what I did. I am in no way disrespecting apprenticeships. My apprenticeship has served my very well in my past, allowing me independence and freedom. However, I've decided it won't serve me personally for the future I want and so am making the leap of faith to risk everything, for the highest reward.
So, this is the beginning of my journey. Risking everything. I've decided to start a blog in which I can not only document my journey, but document what I learn in hope that others will find it and it can help them learn too. I'm expecting to learn a lot from mistakes so watch out for many of those, but it is the best way in which we learn. I'm insanely excited to start this journey and am starting film school with Raindance later this year. I am finally doing what I want to do and becoming authentically me, which is already one of the greatest feelings.
I have high hopes for this journey and even higher ambitions. Let the journey begin.
